Harshavardhan’s Journey: Innovating Affordable Disease Detection Through Technology

Harshavardhan, an electronics and communication engineering student from Shri Sairam Institute of Technology in Chennai, has always been fascinated by how things work and passionate about using technology to solve real life problems. Inspired by personal experiences, including his father’s struggle with polio, Harshavardhan envisioned a healthcare innovation that could detect diseases early through saliva analysis, aiming to make timely diagnosis accessible and affordable for all, especially in underserved communities.
Nowadays, people are unable to detect diseases in a shorter span of time, and by the time they reach a doctor, it’s often too late or too costly—that’s the gap I wanted to solve. 
We had the chance to work with Harshavardhan as he transformed his personal experiences into a meaningful innovation. Through one-on-one feedback, mentorship, and startup guidance, he shaped his idea into a solution aimed at early disease detection, helping people avoid unnecessary healthcare costs while ensuring timely intervention.
One of Harshavardhan’s biggest challenges was bridging the gap between his electronics background and the medical knowledge his project required. Without expertise in biology, it was difficult to accurately map diseases and symptoms. He quickly learned the importance of collaboration and seeking guidance from experts to strengthen his idea.
Although the project is currently on hold due to academic constraints, Harshavardhan remains determined to revisit it. His journey highlights the importance of working on problems that matter personally, staying resilient despite obstacles, and using innovation to create real social impact in the future.
