Amey & Team’s Mission: Tackling Construction Pollution through Innovation
Share this story
Growing up in Mumbai in a family of doctors and academics, Amey always felt the quiet pressure to carve his own path and create meaningful change. With a passion for social impact, he set his sights on the often-overlooked problem of construction pollution, one of the leading contributors to poor urban air quality. Together with his partner Vardha, a working professional with a background in computer science, he envisioned a solution combining hardware and software to monitor air quality at construction sites.
Half the pollution in our cities comes from construction sites, but most people don’t realize how much it affects our environment and health. The real challenge isn’t just building solutions–it’s making sure they actually work on the ground and get adopted by those who need them most.

We at DPurpose had the privilege to assist Amey and his team during this crucial phase of their journey. Through targeted mentorship, expert guidance, and hands-on sessions, we helped them step back and refine their idea, not just in terms of technology, but also in aligning it with real world needs and regulations. They learned the importance of stakeholder engagement, market readiness, and the small but essential details that make a solution practical and scalable.
One of their biggest challenges came when they struggled to maintain momentum due to Vardha’s demanding work schedule, which limited her ability to contribute consistently. Instead of letting this hinder their progress, they embraced flexibility and designed a structured work plan that allowed both to stay actively involved without overwhelming themselves. This experience not only helped them manage their time better but also reinforced the importance of communication, adaptability, and teamwork; key lessons that shaped their journey forward.
Their breakthrough came during the Hack4Purpose event, where they presented their prototype to mentors and industry experts, tested real world scenarios, and gathered valuable feedback that sharpened both the technical and practical aspects of their solution. Today, Amey and Vardha continue to develop and pilot their pollution monitoring system with local authorities and construction firms, proving that with perseverance, learning, and the right support, ambitious ideas can evolve into meaningful impact.
