Surekha’s Journey: From Student to Data Innovator

Surekha grew up in a supportive family in Andhra Pradesh, where her father works as a priest and her mother manages the household. With a younger brother studying Vedas in Tirupati, Surekha was encouraged to pursue her interests and ambitions. Currently an undergraduate in Computer Science Engineering with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Surekha’s journey has been shaped by her participation in the “Hack4Purpose” hackathon. Inspired by her mentors and the collaborative spirit of her team, Surekha is dedicated to building impactful, user-friendly solutions, most notably a comprehensive database of India’s imports, while balancing academic challenges and personal growth through teamwork and resilience. 

There’s not even one site available to collect this kind of data—we have to search on Google and collect it from multiple websites.

Through tailored mentorship and continuous support, DPurpose provided Surekha with the tools to turn her technically sound idea into a purpose driven solution. Her project, Imports in India, aims to centralize scattered and inaccessible import data into a single, user-friendly platform. We helped her and her teammate navigate the challenges of data sourcing, user interface design, and platform structure, while also encouraging them to think critically about how their work could drive long term national impact.

Balancing final year academics, placements, and personal hurdles, Surekha stayed deeply committed to her project, driven by a desire to reduce India’s import burden. With encouragement from her mentor and exposure to inspiring entrepreneurs through the Foundation, she gained the confidence and perspective needed to lead with clarity and resilience. Her transformation from a quiet, diligent student into a confident innovator is a reflection of both her sincerity and the strength of the support system around her.

Now approaching the final stages of development, Surekha is working toward hosting the platform online and making it widely accessible. With continued mentorship and a clear vision, she is determined to create real world impact. From a student project born out of curiosity and national pride, her work is now evolving into a meaningful resource, and a story that’s sure to inspire many more.
